Tennis Coaching in Your Schools Curriculum
At PlayTennis we strongly believe that tennis is a game for everyone. That’s why we have worked hard to establish a formal partnership with primary schools local to our base at Mount Lawley Tennis Club. We are happy to travel to Perth suburbs if you require.
Who are the key people in Curriculum Tennis?
Curriculum Tennis is a formal relationship between PlayTennis, Tennis West (on behalf of Tennis Australia and the ‘Sporting Schools’ Australian Government Sports Commission) and you, the participating primary school.
Who delivers the tennis lessons at your school?
Rhys McDougall leads a team of experienced professionals to deliver tennis as part of the school curriculum. Rhys is the Director & Head Professional Coach at PlayTennis. Rhys was voted Tennis Coach of the Year WA, in 2017, by Tennis Australia.
PlayTennis Coaches are all employed and mentored by Rhys.
PlayTennis coaches are:
- Qualified or being mentored (under Rhys) toward professional qualification
- Screened and have current ‘national working with children’ checks.
- Insured under PLAYTENNIS and so have public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
Why teach tennis in schools?
The aim is to create a long-lasting partnership that will encourage all children to experience tennis as part of the curriculum in their primary years and hopefully encourage them to continue playing tennis.
Due to time and financial constraints felt by families we believe that many children will only experience tennis when delivered in a school environment and at no cost. We believe that tennis is a sport that should be accessible to all children regardless of time constraints and financial status.
PlayTennis will support you:
- We will work flexibly with you to ensure that you receive your desired tennis experience, to meet student and teacher needs.
- We will be entirely responsible for lesson plans, and teaching if you require.
- We will be flexible in accommodating different numbers, ages, abilities and lesson structures, if necessary.
- We will work within the space that you have available.
- We will work with teachers collaboratively, as much or as little as you require.
- We will assist with professional development, if you want.
